California requires all parties unable to resolve their custody/visitation disputes to attend Child Custody Recommending Counseling (CCRC), which is also often referred to as mediation.  CCRC is designed to help the parties reach agreements regarding custody and visitation issues. The child custody recommending counselor (CCRC) does not represent either party and remains impartial.

Solano County’s CCRC program occurs on the day of the scheduled hearing and is a recommending process.  Parents meet with the CCRC the morning of the hearing, and the CCRC writes recommendations for the judge to review before he or she hears the case.  Generally speaking, the sessions last approximately 20 – 30 minutes.  Often times, there will be a referral for further, out of court assistance, including child interviews, parent/child observations, and/or a longer CCRC session.  These additional sessions do carry a small fee, which are typically equally divided between the two parents.

The current fees, which are subject to change at any time without notice, are as follows:

Parent/Child Observations$200.00 per session
Child Interviews plus a Subsequent CCRC Session$250.00 for the first two children, with an additional $75.00 for each child thereafter
Subsequent CCRC Session$350.00 for up to three hours
